Represent Your Own Interests

February 4, 2026

Dear Crescent Housing Resident,

Our board and leadership team are committed to creating a safe, pleasant living environment for all residents and a place where you can be proud to call home. The safety and wellbeing of both residents and staff remain a top priority in all decisions and day-to-day operations.

Our board of directors and leadership team have been advised of the formation of a Tenant Association at Crescent Housing.

Please read this communication carefully as it contains critical information about your rights.

We are advised that Tenant Associations are not recognized under the Residential Tenancy Act (RTA), nor do they have any rights under the RTA. In our opinion, our commitment to creating a safe and pleasant living environment makes such an association a redundant endeavour.

Therefore, we do not and will not recognize any attempt by the association to act as the liaison between Tenants and Landlord or to be the collective voice for some or all Tenants. The Landlord has every right to engage individually with its Tenants, and Crescent Housing management will continue to do so and encourage you to represent your own interests.

Please be aware that allowing an intermediary to act on your behalf may impact your privacy rights under the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), as it involves sharing personal and tenancy-related information. Crescent Housing will ensure that all information collected, used and disclosed in the course of any dealings and communications is done in accordance with PIPA to protect your rights.

In other words, you are not obligated to join any Tenant Association. If you feel pressured to do so, please report the matter to me immediately. These reports will be kept totally private and confidential.

We would like to remind all residents that your lease agreement outlines both Tenant and Landlord rights and responsibilities, and we encourage residents to review their lease as the first point of reference when questions or concerns arise. As Landlord, we will always comply with the RTA to ensure safety, fairness, and consistency for the entire Crescent Housing community.

Any complaints about breach of tenancy agreements or about behaviours infringing on human rights will be fully investigated to ensure the quiet enjoyment of all residents and maintain a safe workplace for our staff. To be clear, bullying and harassment of any kind whether it be from resident to resident, staff to resident, or resident to staff will not be tolerated. Therefore, never hesitate to report any incidence using the contact information provided at the end of this communication.

In the last several months, the Landlord has taken action in renewing our commitment to foster respectful and productive Tenants/Landlord relations. As CEO, I invited any Tenant to meet with me one-on-one to listen to concerns and suggestions. I found the meetings enjoyable and informative. The feedback provided our leadership team with good data and informed the following actions to enhance the residents’ living experience at Crescent Housing. These include but are not limited to:

  • The formation of a residents committee (which remains to be named) with the goal to engage residents and give them voice on initiatives that may occur at Crescent Housing. Our first meeting was on February 2.

  • A widespread invitation to schedule one-on-one meetings either with Louise Taylor, Director of Community Engagement, Aura Chiriac, Director of Properties and Resident Engagement, or me as CEO.

  • An Intranet page was created to share various announcements about events, classes, community activities, etc.

  • An annual survey will be conducted to measure our performance and impact against our long-term goals to foster community engagement, maintain safe and healthy living environments, and enhance resident access to community services. We are currently preparing for this survey which should be distributed in February.

  • An agreement to discontinue posting communication to Tenants’ door as this practice contributed to their stress and made the building look trashy. Instead, we adopted various options to distribute general announcements based on individual preferences and deliver confidential communications discretely either by hand, email or Canada Post.

  • We have repealed the no drinking alcohol policy.

  • A new pool table was purchased and installed to replace the pool table that sustained damage from the sewage overflow.

We are aware you have concerns but assure you that we also receive notes of appreciation from residents and family members about living here. While we always appreciate when you acknowledge the good work and dedication manifested by staff, we also appreciate any and all feedback that will help us create great living conditions for all of you. You can email your suggestions, concerns, or compliments using the addresses below. Alternatively, you can request a one-on-one meeting with Louise Tremblay, Louise Taylor or Aura Chiriac.

If you need clarification and have questions about this communication, please contact me at louise.tremblay@brellasociety.ca.

Whenever you feel the need to connect with us, please feel free to email impact@brellasociety.ca. The email account is solely monitored by Louise Taylor, Director of Community Engagement and me. You can also contact Crescent Housing management at office@crescenthousingsociety.com.

Sincerely,

On behalf of the board of directors and leadership team at Crescent Housing,

Louise Tremblay

CEO
